Job Title: Project Engineer / Consultant
Location: Downtown Montreal, Quebec
Languages: Must be fluent in both English and French (spoken and written)
Compensation: Competitive, to be determined based on experience
Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or other field of science
We are looking for a sociable and versatile candidate that can work just as well independently as in a group. In your role as Project Engineer / Consultant, your functions will include:
- meeting with clients to assess whether their projects meet the criteria of any of the various government funding programs available,
- preparing the technical documentation (including technical reports) required to prove that the work done meets the criteria,
- collecting financial data (i.e., payroll summaries as well as material, equipment, and subcontractor invoices) to calculate the amount of funding the client is eligible to receive, and
- participating in various business development activities including: marketing initiatives, conferences, networking, and cold calling.
The Perfect Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and attributes.
- A strong technical and analytical mind: You should have the ability to understand new technologies quickly and have an interest to work with technologies other than those in your background. You can demonstrate (or have demonstrated in the past) the ability to breakdown what information is important and what is not. You are able to figure things out on your own but at the same time recognize when it is time to ask for help.
- Very good communication skills: Your communication skills are exemplary. In your own style, you communicate easily with people in both English and French and can do so just as well verbally as in writing. You can also handle difficult clients with aplomb and in a professional manner.
- An entrepreneurial mindset: You are an independent, take charge type of person who recognizes that working with a small team means taking on responsibility and being accountable. You are also not only interested in growing with the team but enriching the team with your experiences and skills as well. Even though you are comfortable taking the lead, you can also take direction and constructive criticism with the goal of getting better. You are open to working additional hours during busy periods and are not obsessed with clocking out after an 8 hour shift.
- Flexible with an attention to detail: You must be able to change directions quickly based on client availability and deadlines. You must be organized enough to manage multiple client files while ensuring that important details do not fall through the cracks.
In addition to the points above, you also have:
- worked in a technical environment on one or more development projects for a period of two years or more;
- worked directly with clients or have played a prominent role in leading a technical project;
- a great attitude that makes you open to trying and learning new things; and
- a valid driver’s license.
Possessing previous software development experience (particularly in a Web environment) will be considered an asset.
